48 Hours at Ecoscape Jamaica …in the Dark

Turns out that sometimes when life drops trees in your path, stepping out on a limb can lead you straight into something unexpectedly beautiful.
My friends and I had been planning a cozy cabin getaway at Ecoscape Jamaica for months. It’s tucked away deep in Lime Hall, St Ann—a quiet, lush escape from Kingston. But when Hurricane Melissa came through and the host messaged us to say there’d be no electricity, the city girl in me immediately wanted to cancel. Mosquito coils and vibes alone? I wasn’t convinced.
But the whole point of the trip was to celebrate my best friend and another close friend’s birthday, unplug from the chaos, and bond with our extensions (our man lol). So, we decided to flip the script: no electricity meant no distractions—just us, nature, candlelight, and vibes.
And listen… I’m so glad we went.

Just an hour and a half outside Kingston sits the most charming set of rustic yet sophisticated cabins—one 2-bedroom, one 1-bedroom—nestled in greenery so lush it looks AI-generated. Add private river access and quiet, and you basically get therapy without the bill.
The Host with the Most
Our host deserves his own paragraph. He was truly the MVP:
Igloos packed with ice
Power stations
Solar lamps
Check-ins to make sure we were good
Zero attitude, 100% hospitality
That adaptability and service? Exactly what Jamaica’s tourism industry needs. He took a stressful situation and made it seamless, and because of that, Ecoscape is officially on my “must-return” list.
River Days & Unfiltered Fun
Daytime at Ecoscape was pure bliss. We spent hours by the river with our feet in the water, yapping, catching up on life, and taking in how peaceful everything felt without the hum of appliances or constant notifications.
We played games like:
Do or Drink
Word Association
Imposter
Guess who took the shot
There was enough liquor consumed to carry me through Dry January twice, but the highlight was really just existing around each other and soaking up the calm.

Nights by Candlelight
Nighttime was straight out of a romance movie—except it was six adults in Jamaica kikiki-ing. We dressed up (just because), laid out our candlelit dinners, and celebrated our friends each night. With no electricity, everything felt more intimate:
Our curry coconut steamed fished with mashed potatoes tasted even better in the dark
Someone attempted a Shrimp Cajun Pasta that slapped.

We roasted marshmallows over the bonfire like we were in a Hallmark movie
And of course… more games, more laughter, more yapping
There’s something magical about hearing only the river, the crickets, and your friends’ unfiltered stories. No phone screens. No scrolling. Just vibes.
The Takeaway
This trip reminded me that sometimes less really is more.
No electricity, no fuss—just great company, nature, and genuine moments that fill your cup.
These 48 hours were a perfect reset and proof that good memories truly make life better.

This is certainly an experience I would love to have. Thanks for sharing. :)
