I’ve wanted to have a blog since I had a big desktop computer plug in internet in my room.  I started with WordPress, and I was confused because the internet was a new concept and the only thing I was good at tech wise was playing PetVille on Facebook. I failed at building a blog and I would sit and romanticize being a blogger every day after that.

Eventually I tried again and so many things scared me. Would people hate my website? Would people read the blog? Would my pictures suck? Would my Instagram grow? So many doubtful questions but despite so much fear I took it day by day.

If you told me when I wrote my very first blog post that I’d one day be sitting here writing my 50th, I probably would’ve laughed, overthought it, and then talked myself out of believing you.

But here we are.

Fifty posts in, and I’ve realized that blogging isn’t just about food or recipes or pretty pictures — it’s about showing up, even when you’re tired, unsure, or questioning why you started in the first place.

So instead of over-romanticizing the milestone, I decided to keep it honest. Here are fifty things I’ve learnt from writing fifty blog posts, in no particular order.

Things I’ve Learnt Along the Way

  1. You don’t have to feel ready to write — you just have to start.

  2. Some posts write themselves; others fight you the entire way.

  3. The posts I almost didn’t publish usually end up being my favorites.

  4. A “bad” unposted draft is still progress.

  5. Writing consistently builds confidence more than talent ever will.

  6. Overthinking is my biggest creative enemy.

  7. Not every post needs to say something profound.

  8. Sometimes you just need to hit publish and walk away.

  9. Writing gets easier — trusting yourself takes longer.

  10. Progress looks very unglamorous in real time.

  11. Some posts will flop. You’ll survive.

  12. The internet is filled with millions or people you’ll find your audience.

  13. You’ll learn what works by doing, not by planning forever.

  14. Perfection is overrated; consistency isn’t.

  15. People connect more to honesty than polish.

  16. You don’t need fancy words to tell a good story.

  17. Blogging teaches patience whether you like it or not.

  18. It’s okay if your content evolves — you’re literally evolving daily.

  19. You won’t always love the posts that perform well.

  20. And you’ll love some posts that barely get seen.

  21. Food is never just food.

  22. Every post carries a memory, mood, or moment.

  23. You don’t need expensive ingredients to create something meaningful.

  24. Jamaican food deserves space, care, and storytelling.

  25. Your perspective is what makes the recipe, post and content different.

  26. Sharing is a vulnerable thing.

  27. You don’t have to be an expert to share what you love.

  28. Creativity and fear usually show up together.

  29. You’re allowed to change your mind about your niche.

  30. Growth doesn’t announce itself — it sneaks up on you.

  31. Comparison will ruin the fun if you let it.

  32. Small wins deserve celebrating.

  33. Other bloggers/ creators are your community not your competition.

  34. Taking breaks doesn’t mean you’re quitting.

  35. Your blog can grow with you.

  36. Blogging teaches discipline in quiet ways.

  37. Confidence comes from repetition.

  38. You’re doing better than you think.

  39. Some lessons only make sense looking back.

  40. Showing up matters more than being perfect.

  41. Someone is always reading — even when it feels like no one is.

  42. Your words can land in places you’ll never see.

  43. Feedback can sting, but it can also sharpen you.

  44. Building something slowly is still building something.

  45. You don’t need permission to take up space online.

  46. Celebrating yourself doesn’t make you arrogant.

  47. Fifty posts is a big deal — yes, even if it took time.

  48. Starting scared still counts as starting.

  49. You’re capable of more than you give yourself credit for.

  50. And honestly? This feels like the beginning, not the end.

So… Here’s to 50

This blog started as a small, scared idea — and somehow turned into something I’m genuinely proud of. I’m still learning. Still doubting. Still figuring it out as I go.

But I’m also still here.

And that feels worth celebrating.

Here’s to the next fifty 🥂
