Sometimes we just gotta pack our bags and go somewhere far away.
The reasons may vary from wanting to clear your mind, a change of scenery, etc. For me it was a celebration, and it was perfectly timed for summer.
With my bag pack, car loaded and my designated driver I headed for the hills of Portland Jamaica, Spring Hill to be exact. To a lovely off grid eco cabin, “Our Escape “was just the escape I needed.

This tiny cabin and gazebo house were perfect an off-grid getaway- it was a modern twist on real country aesthetic. From the zinc bathroom with the much-welcomed hot water to sounds of the river and the animals nestled us in real serenity. It was everything it needed to be.
I’m sure right now you’re like okay Vanessa, we get it the cabin is nice! Get to the part about how a getaway is the perfect thing to do this summer that involves your belly.
Fine!

Exploring a different area from your home makes you a tourist and along the way to your getaway destination definitely stop and indulge in the local cuisine. For me I was super excited to try Boston Jerk for the first time but because of the road damaged by Hurricane Beryl we had to take the St Mary route, so we stopped and got some jerk chicken at Glen's Jerk Center in Buff Bay, it was good but nothing to write home about. Fast forward to our way back home a little detour for sightseeing took us to Kool Down which is an ice-cream parlor I saw on TikTok, and I had to try it. Even though my belly nuh good especially sometimes when it comes to dairy, I had to try a cone of their delicious soft served ice cream and where can you get a waffle cone coated with nuts for $600?! It was delicious and definitely worth the risk.
Back to the middle of the experience. We knew we’d be way up in the mountains and to really enjoy some down time we’d have to cook our own meals. So, we planned and stocked up ingredients to make our favorite meals and try and make a fancy celebratory dinner.
Some meals we had were pancakes and eggs and chocolate tea for breakfast. Corn bread sandwiches for lunch after getting back spending the morning by the private water fall and the star of the show Surf and Turf for dinner!

Your meals are solely up to you and if you’re like me food tastes ten times better when it’s plated aesthetically and there’s a view so definitely use this as an opportunity to tap into your creativity and make wonderful memories this summer.
Where would you like to go as a dry land tourist this summer? Let me know in the comments.
Also definitely turn on the post notifications for my first-time making Surf and Turf.
