Blueberry Ginga Fizz | Mocktail Recipe

There was a time when I thought I had to be everywhere and everything online.

YouTube videos. Constant posting. Performing a version of myself that felt productive but not entirely honest. Somewhere in that era—between editing clips and forcing consistency—I made this Blueberry Ginga Fizz. I’d almost forgotten about it until Dry January rolled around again.

Funny how certain recipes are tied to specific versions of ourselves.

This drink was simple, thoughtful, and quietly good. No alcohol. No trends. Just flavor. And maybe that’s why it still holds up.

Why It Works for Dry January

Dry January doesn’t have to mean bland drinks or sad substitutes. What I love about this refresher is that it still feels intentional. The ginger gives heat, the blueberries bring depth, and the sparkling water makes it feel celebratory without trying too hard.

It’s proof that a drink doesn’t need alcohol—or an identity crisis—to be interesting.

The Blueberry Ginga Fizz

Ingredients

Fresh or frozen blueberries

Fresh ginger, peeled and sliced

Sugar (white or brown works fine)

Water

Sparkling water, chilled

Ice

Method

1. In a small saucepan, combine blueberries, sliced ginger, sugar, and a splash of water.

2. Simmer gently, stirring occasionally, until the blueberries burst and the mixture thickens slightly into a syrup.

3. Strain if you want it smooth or leave it pulpy

4. Let the syrup cool completely.

5. Add ice to a glass, pour in the blueberry ginger syrup, and top with sparkling water.

6. Stir lightly and taste. Adjust with more syrup if needed.

A Little Reflection

Back then, I didn’t fully appreciate this drink—or myself. I was more focused on showing than being. Revisiting it now feels grounding. It reminds me that simplicity is often where I’m most aligned, both in the kitchen and in life.

Dry January has a way of doing that—stripping things back and letting you reconnect with what actually feels good.

If you’re looking for a non-alcoholic drink that has personality, warmth, and a little story behind it, this one’s worth revisiting. Even if, like me, it comes from a chapter you’ve outgrown.

Sometimes the best recipes are the ones that wait patiently for you to come back to yourself. 💙🫚
