I've been told its people who hate themselves that workout after their workday and I agree... just kidding. Making time for yourself and prioritizing healthy habits at whatever time your schedule permits is an act of self-love.

HOWEVER! Going to the gym after work is not for the weak! When the stresses of the workday drain your energy what's left to fuel your workout? That was my pressing question, so I started looking into pre-workout supplements for an energy boost and boy are they pricey

So, I dug a little deeper into other alternatives to give me a boost of energy to get the pump in my workout. Here's a few inexpensive pre-workout foods I found, and I'll let you know if they worked or not:

Honey and Salt
Honey and Salt

Honey and Salt- A teaspoon of honey provides quick and natural energy mixed with a pinch of salt you've got the sodium boost to keep your muscles hydrated and electrolytes balanced that's the science behind it but for me I'd rate it a 4/10. I definitely got a bit of a pick me up, but it wasn't sustained throughout my work out session, also idk if it's just my tummy but my tummy felt funny after having it.

Rice Krispies- social media is pushing these treats as a viral pre-workout and I can see why. It's an enjoyable sweet treat that definitely gives you a sugar rush for a longer time than the honey and salt from my experience. It's a cheap option loaded with quick- digesting carbs (and sugar so watch out for that); the gym girlies didn't lie about this one, I give it a good 7.5/10

Coconut water- as Jamaicans would say some coconut water washes off your heart, but it also floods you with electrolytes, potassium, magnesium and the right amount of natural sugar. On the books it's a great refreshing and nutrient dense option but in my experience, it left me feeling hydrated for sure but didn't give me a big kick of energy like I'd need some days. I give it a 5/10 but it's definitely something I'd sip on throughout a session to keep hydrated- hydration and your muscles are best friends after all.

Oxyshred- my coworker had me try some of her Oxyshred and it had me bouncing off the walls but not in the coffee jitters and crash later kinda way, it was a smooth boost of energy which is just what I needed. Despite the price ($44USD/ $6,864.00JMD) I ended up using this as my primary pre-workout supplement because in comparison to the others the energy boost was unmatched. When I take it, I don't just feel awake I feel stronger, and the benefits listed are quite favorable. According to the label it aids in:

-fat loss

-appetite suppression (which I'm not really looking for, but I've definitely noticed)

-enhanced mood and focus: definitely experienced this

-immune support as it includes vitamin c and other antioxidants

What this little research taught me is there are definitely options out there- be it expensive or affordable- a bottle of coconut water or sweet treat just pick what works for you and get it done.

Have you been moving your body and how do you fuel up? Let me know in the comments!
