Jamaica experienced its worst hurricane in history since Hurricane Gilbert. A category 5 hurricane, Melissa that brought catastrophic damage to the western side of our beautiful country. For me and many others on the eastern side it’s been a bittersweet experience. Sweet because we were spared and bitter because our people of the west are going through it.

This whole time I’ve been reminded of what “Jamaica No Problem “has always meant to me. To me, it never meant that Jamaica is the utopian world where it’s all kitten and rainbows. It mean that despite the problems Jamaicans will never accept “no”. No, we’re not going to let destruction, damage, pain, negativity or anything of that nature get us down.

We’ve always had a ride and whistle kinda attitude about us. We always find something to smile about as we pick up the pieces and even laugh at our pain (Jamaicans have a dark humor about us). And with that in mind I remain hopeful that my beautiful country will be whole again. Because if your mind is lost, you’re twice defeated.

To the world we’re this burst of flavor, from food to the vibes and the overall culture and the support we’re getting shows that Jamaica is loved. To the world we’re the sprint capital but now we have to take on a marathon, and I implore everyone to ride and whistle with us. Find joy and enjoy your lives but continuously lend a helping hand, donate and pray for our people that need it.

Because we’ll rise again.

Here are some resources to help Jamaica land we love:

P.S. this is by no means it- simply notable organized charity that I've seen and appreciated.

I agree with everything said about us as Jamaicans. I just did a blog myself and added it as a menu option for my website as well. I have not published it as yet, because I am waiting on one more established funding source approval to add them to my list. The tragedy for the citizens in the western hemisphere of the island is really heartrending. I applaud you for caring and making an effort to assist in any way or by any means.
