We're in a New Year so in comes the "New Year New Me" soldiers and I am surely one of them. With each New Year we all aim to be a better version of ourselves but sometimes doing too much too fast tied with being unrealistic leads to burn out and our goals falling far from our reach.
Let's be real- life is busy.
Between work, maybe school, social plans and just general self-care stuff, eating well can easily slide to the bottom of the priorities list. But what if I told you there's a cheat code to making sure you tick the healthy eating item off your list in a realistic way? Enter "Supplemental Meal Prepping" the low maintenance sibling of traditional meal prep that's perfect for someone that just wants to do better but really can't find the time/energy to do it all.
What is Supplemental Meal Prepping you may ask? It's all about prepping parts of your meals instead of whole dishes to help "healthy up" the meals you don't prepare. Stay with me now- imagine you go buy a box lunch on your break and we all know how they pack a box lunch with loads of rice, you picked bake chicken because we're making healthier choices and God bless the two piece a lettuce and tomato they give you. No worries because you have your prepped side salad loaded with whatever nutritious veggies you like, split the rice serving you got in half and take home the leftover for dinner- boom that's Supplemental Meal Prepping!
Why is Supplemental Meal Prepping the move for 2025 and how can we get started?
Health Goals, Simplified- I like to say I'm not a real adult yet because I don't know how it is some adults can go home after work and cook a whole dinner, package some for lunch and wake up and make a serious breakfast. Aunty, friend, you need to bottle your strength and sell it cause HOW?! But the reality is your nutrition is an essential part of health and wellness so we gotta take control of what we feed ourselves and supplemental meal prepping can help we that. A quick side salad, steam some veggies and portion out for the week to have with your takeout lunch, prep some breakfast sandwiches or even just take your own coffee but make it high protein instead of buying the high sugar cafe option. These are all small simple swaps we can do to supplement our mealtimes for greatness.
Time and Money Saver, buying takeout breakfast and lunches may be easier but it aint cheaper, a patty and cocoa bread costs and a medium coffee is $800JMD if we're buying those 5 days a week thats- . A tray of eggs, pack of sausage, wheat bread and stuff to make your iced coffee at home maybe close or a little over that but is way more nutrient rich. Also not having to stop for breakfast may just save you some time you can reinvest into something productive.
Plan ahead- you fail to plan you fail the plan? is that saying? It's really simple yet really hard, have a sit down and take a look at the days ahead, whether it be the next three days or the coming week look at how your days are going to be set and what you can do to make each day easier? what would you want to eat? what do you need to buy to prep? can you steam all your veggies on Sunday and share some out each day to take to work? Think about it, write it down, put your plans into actions and get started.
If this is all tickling your fancy and you wanna test this out the first step is to invest in Storage Containers and a Lunch kit, you can't carry the stuff in your hands duh! After that you're good to go start prepping and taking charge of your health one supplemental meal at a time.
Supplemental Meal Prepping is all about making healthy eating realistic and meeting you where you're at. Let's prep for a year of vibrant, nourishing meals that keep us thriving.
